When preparing soaps, it is necessary to take a series of very basic precautions.

You will be handling caustic soda. So, to avoid splashing and not to breathe in vapors, it is recommended to wear gloves and a mask. 

The process in itself is not dangerous. It is only a question of being far-sighted and cautious but know that this technique has been used for generations and generations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of olive oil (473 g)
  • 1 cup of dry rosemary (it is important that any herb we include in our soaps is very dry) (150 g)
  • ¾ glass of water (150 ml)
  • ¼ cup of caustic soda (62 g)
  • 1 glass of rosemary infusion (200 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon of tea tree essential oil (15 g)
  • A plastic bowl

The first thing to do is the infusion. It is very useful as this will ensure that the rosemary soap will be effective in cleaning and caring for oily skin.

  • Bring the water to a boil, and then add a spoonful of dry rosemary. Let the decoction take place for a few minutes and then remove the rosemary and keep only the infusion. Book.
  • The second step is a little more delicate but also simple. You will handle the caustic soda and pour it into the plastic bowl. Do not forget your gloves and mask because the product, as you know, is abrasive.
  • Also remember to use caustic soda in an open space (balcony, terrace, garden…) to avoid inhaling too much gas.
  • In the caustic soda, put the infusion you made with the rosemary. Do it little by little to avoid splashing. Be aware, moreover, that when you mix these two components, steam will come out.
  • Then let the infusion and caustic soda cool for 15 minutes. The mixture must cool down so that we can gradually add other ingredients to it.
  • Once the time is up, it’s time to add two cups of olive oil. It must be very hot. Add it little by little, being very careful.
  • Let cool once more. Later add tea tree essential oil.

Further preparation

Remember that it will always be best if the mixture is cold so that the essential oils retain their properties.

  • Then, to speed up the work and homogenize the mixture, use the mixer at low speed. Place it in the center of the bowl without moving it. With calm and care.
  • When you see that all of the ingredients become thicker, like mayonnaise, add the rest of the dry rosemary (this will give you an exfoliating effect). It’s almost ready!
  • To finish, just pour the mixture into the molds. A tip: add a few sprigs of rosemary at the bottom beforehand to make it easier to remove the soap.
