5 Remedies To Reduce Foot Sweating

In addition to the natural remedies that we offer, to avoid foot sweating and bad odors, it is essential to follow good hygiene, to wash them and dry them daily.

The sweating of the feet is a common reaction when we spend many hours in the same shoes.  Lack of ventilation, heat and humidity often promote the appearance of this type of discomfort.  Especially during the hottest months of the year.

This problem can usually be solved with measures as simple as: taking off our shoes, showering and drying our feet well, and using open shoes (sandals, for example) to ventilate the area well.

The sweating of the feet can nevertheless sometimes be excessive. This  is known as hyperhidrosis. Fortunately, we can deal with the latter.

Excessive sweating of the feet, also called hyperhidrosis, is an uncomfortable symptom that can be caused by changes in hormonal activity, use of inappropriate shoes, or stress.

It is a common problem in the population which, although not serious, can lead to the appearance of fungal infections, as well as bad odors. Indeed, the humidity combined with the heat generated by the shoes, creates an environment conducive to the excessive proliferation of microorganisms.

Although this is a situation that can be avoided with the use of commercial antiperspirants and certain hygiene measures. It is only in more severe cases that other treatments and different drugs are considered.

Home remedies for sweating feet

It is believed in the popular sphere that certain home remedies can be used to combat excessive sweating on the feet. Sometimes these are baths and liquids that are used as tonics, and sometimes preparations for disinfecting shoes for regular use.

We will therefore present, below, some of the most popular remedies proposed by popular wisdom to naturally fight against excessive sweating of the feet.

1. Infusion of rosemary, mint and sage  sweating feet

It is said that the mixture of these three herbs can be beneficial in case of excessive sweating in the feet.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water (500 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons of rosemary (20 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of mint leaves (10 g)
  • 1 tablespoon of sage (10 g)

Preparation

  • Bring the water to a boil then add the herbs.
  • Leave to stand for 15 minutes then pass through a sieve.

Manual

  • Pour the infusion into a small basin then immerse your feet in it for 20 minutes.
  • Dry the feet at the end of the treatment and repeat at least 3 times a week.

2. Black tea

Although there is no scientific proof, it is said that the tannic acid in black tea helps regulate the pH of the skin of the feet, preventing moisture and the excessive growth of fungi and bacteria.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of black tea (30 g)
  • 2 cups of water (500 ml)

Preparation

  • Add the black tea to the boiling water then let stand 15 minutes.
  • Filter the drink with a colander then pour it into a container.

Manual

  • Soak your feet in the infusion for at least 20 minutes.
  • You can also apply the treatment with a spray.

3. Sodium bicarbonate against excessive sweating of the feet

We can use water with sodium bicarbonate  to disinfect and deodorize the shoes that we wear regularly, such as sports shoes for example.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate (30 g)
  • 3 cups of water (750 ml)

Preparation

  • Heat the water, without going to the boil, then pour into a basin.
  • Then add the sodium bicarbonate and stir to dilute well.

Manual

  • Soak the shoes in the liquid and leave them there for at least 15 minutes.
  • After this time, remove the shoes, drain them and let them dry well in a well-ventilated space and preferably in the sun. 
  • You can also use this mixture to deodorize and clean your sports socks.

4. Corn starch and coconut oil

It is believed that the mixture of starch and coconut oil  could help absorb excess moisture in shoes and socks. It might also help regulate pH when applied to the feet.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of corn starch (20 g)
  • 3 tablespoons of coconut oil (45 g)

Preparation

  • Mix the corn starch with the coconut oil to obtain a creamy paste.

Mode of application

  • Rub the paste on your feet and leave on for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse and dry well.
  • Repeat the treatment at least 3 times a week.

5. Tea tree essential oil  sweating feet

The following preparation is believed to help neutralize odor, restore skin pH, and fight potential foot pathogens.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of water (750 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon of tea tree essential oil (15 g)

Preparation

  • Heat the water until it boils.
  • Add tea tree oil.
  • Turn off the heat and let cool.
  • Then place the liquid in a large bowl or container.

Mode of application

  • Soak your feet for a few minutes.
  • Then dry them well and discard the liquid you used.
  • Never apply tea tree oil (or any other essential oil) without first diluting it with water.
